Low Tide Vista Photo

Photographer’s Note

I visited this location on Strawberry Point in Mill Valley some time ago and posted an image called Rooms With View. On this particular day I was taking my recently purchased camera out to see what 4 megapixels can produce.

I found the location with the tide out, offering a long view across mudflats to the apartment complex and beyond toward San Francisco in the distance. I'm aware of the limitations of offering a scene like this in such a small format but here we are. The image sits atop my desktop at 1680 pixels by 1050 pixels and its pretty breathtaking. But I can share this view with all of you. Enjoy!

INteresting seascape, alwasy so much more to see at low tide, with patterns forming in the mud.

Hello Curtis. Glad to come across one of your photographs. I thought you'd get rid of your 70-200 after buying the 135 L, but I guess there's simply a physical and psychological impossibility to get rid of a L lens... I'm not particularly fond of your composition in this image. Even though I'm not a technique freak, it still looks to centered to my taste. I can imagine that the reduced size for web posting doesn't do any justice to the original though. Have you been using your 85mm lately? It's been a while since I've seen any photos with your other primes (if I remember well, you also have a 50mm 1.4...). Cheers

Hi Curtis - this image provides a great contrast with the earlier one you posted, and there's also a huge contrast within it, the mudflats against the sky & city. It's a great viewpoint (yeah, I know I'm biased towards SF images!).

Good to see a new photo from you, hopefully that 1D has more treats in store for us :)

Some interesting patterns are shown here - the lighting is 'honest' and I think that helps the shot - it makes a nice change - TFS :)
