Ferry Boat Ride Photo

Photographer’s Note

So, you want to go for a ride on San Francisco Bay? Some days you get spectacular sun and skies filled with clouds. On other days you get heavy overcast of fog entering through the Golden Gate. Some days you get both!

I've never been on a ferry in the middle of the Bay, so I can't say for sure what this particular day was like for the passengers. But I loved the feel of it in this photo taken from Strawberry Point in Mill Valley with Yerba Buena Island in the background and the Bay Bridge extending to the right toward downtown San Francisco. Of course, I was standing in the warm sun of Marin County, while these folks navigated beneath the fog. Might be fun to try sometime...

Now that is some view Curtis! I like how you let the fog/clouds occupy most of the frame. The position of the ferry to the left and the Golden Gate bridge just about visible under the haze make for a super composition. Top shot Curtis!

Ha, there's nothing golden on the bridge anymore in this fog, it really is a heavy white blanket. I would love to go on that ferry, every day if possible, cold or not, fog or not!

Mill Valley, Mill Valley??!! Is there a mill after which it is named? Then get a picture of it, and back us up against the Portuguese!
I checked Google but Strawberry Point is quite far from the Golden Gate bridge, right? You must have relly wonderful views all around. Although I'm far from unhappy where I live, I envy you the nature that seems to be everywhere around you.

I did go by a ferry!! Oh how nice to remember. Since I was guest in Sebastopol, when I went to San Francisco downtown I took a ferry starting near S Quentin after having parked ther our car! I enjoyed so much the views. It was so a good way to arrive downtown, sitting and looking at the sea, the bridges, the bay.
I imagine to be there again, loking at your pic, so well done

Beautiful photo Curtis! i like to have more of the top of themountain and the bridge, but that is not your doing. When I was working, to break my commute using BART, I sometimes take the ferry for a week. I take it Vallejo station. It is very relaxing.

Great image Curtis - the bay has been photogrpahed so often but not always from this angle, and not always when the fog is as enveloping as it is here!

If the flag pole of the ship was slightly higher it would have reached the sky.
Interesting effect you show us in this shot somewhat focussing on the overcast sky...

La vie émerge sous cette imposante masse de brouillard qui "mange" littéralement le paysage. Il fallait oser composer cette photographie de cette manière. C'est très réussi.
