Convict Lake's unfortunate name originated in the wild-west days when a desperado gang escaped Carson City, Nevada prison and holed up in this canyon. A shootout with a posse resulted in the death of the lawmen's leader, Robert Morrison (for home the mountain in this image is named after).
Convict Lake's unique geology differs from most of the light colored granite Sierra, because the sedimentary and metamorphic rocks have not been eroded away to reveal the granite that uplifted the range.

A billion years of history in a single shot, impressive! This is a beautiful view of this oddl named place. Love the reflection, always adds something extra to any shot, but I love that in addition to the reflection we can see right through the water to the lake bed below. A nice indication of how clear and pure this water must be.

Ray, despite its name this is a very beautiful place with spectacular landscapes..it's been long time since I've visited but I always remember places like your picture with fantastic colors and exciting reflections!!
