Sunrise at Convict Lake Photo

Photographer’s Note

Located 5 miles south of Mammoth Junction of the U.S.395, Convict lake nestled in a bowl at about 7800 feet. About a mile long and half-mile wide. Total area for this beautiful lake is about 168 acres. This peaceful scenic place is also a popular place for recreation. The beautiful scenery with contrasting environments of high desert, lush forests and lake studded mountains put this place in a class by itself.

This shot is really wonderful, Phuoc. The V-shaped shadow on the mountain and its reflection is awsome as well as the mountain itself. On top of all the small cloud looks almost like a little bit of cream on top of a cake.

Hello Phuoc! Very nice tightly framed shot here. The reflection is well exposed and your sharpness is impressive. I find the shape of that sole cloud around the peak very intriguing.

Wonderful reflection, good, perfect details, perfect colours... a beautiful place, a lucky little cloud over the mountain top. What captures my eye first is the desing of the shadows, the one on the mountain and the other in the water. Always very clever, Phuoc!

This is one of my favorite places. Your photo does it justice! The lighting on Laurel Mtn. with the reflection in the lake made for a great composition. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Phuoc:

Very nice shot of this beautiful lake. Your timing was impeccable. The only thing that I think would make a shot like this better is the use of a grad filter--a 1-stop would probably work for a shot like this--to try to bring down the brightness of the upper portion of the shot. Otherwise, this is fantastic. You got a perfect reflection--I'm jealous. :)
