Photographer’s Note
The thumb of gray rock towering above Lake Barrett is Crystal Crag, a cleaver or island of resistant granitic rock around which flowed the two arms of a glacier. It is a remnant of a once high ridge separating the drainages of glacial formed lakes. Glacial quarrying steepened the sides of the ridge, finally cutting through and destroying it, except for Crystal Crag itself, which apparently was more resistant.
