The Lake Mary Road into the Mammoth Lakes Basin ends at Horseshoe Lake, which is ten miles from the main Highway 395.
Horseshoe Lake is the only one with wide sandy shores.
Because it has no outlet, swimming is permitted. (The other lakes supply drinking water, therefore no swimming.)
There is a hiking trail which goes deeper into the wilderness and closer to the mountains seen here. Higlights are: McLeod Lake, Crater Meadows, Deer Creek, and the Red Cones (volcanic formations).

Hello Ray, With sand shoes and swimming permitting, It would be nice to take a bath, of course, if the water in not too cold. Beautiful capture of fantastic landscape.

PS. Some places are crowded all the year round, no matter when you go to e.g. Venice or Prague there are a lot of people. I chos a good time for my trip, there were a lot of flowers and still not VERY hot.

Beautiful lake scenery on this old photo, Ray.
Contrast blue on green and the high terrain on far backdrop's, are all under favorable daylight and well collected.

Ray, nature at its best...the serenity and peace reign here and so nice to see the thick forest with such beautiful trees...the recent wildfires done some damage here in San Diego...
a nice contrast with the blue water and a magnificent view to the mountains!!

Good morning, Ray,
this name of lake reminds me another Horseshoe in the Grand Canyon. Have you see that place?
Another interesting photo from the Northern California! The deep blue water tells us about very good weather and the clear blue sky. I think, this national park is ideal place for rest and relax after our everyday problems.
Greetings from sunny Ural,

Your gallery is full of amazing landscape post! This one is a great proof of that. Like the way you built the composition concentrating on the layers and different patterns created by the nature. Very well done!

You're capturing well this landscape by a good angle and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the calm/clean Horseshoe Lake with sandy shores, green wood and steep mountain in back. It seems here that untouched nature is still left behind.
