An early morning hike took me to see sweeping vistas(360) of the Pacific Ocean (behind me in this view), the San Gabriel Mountains to the south, the Los Padres National Forest to the right, the Oxnard Plain in front when clear, and finally the back side of Old Boney Mountain. This view is looking northeast in Ventura County.
From the trailhead, the Sandstone Peak trail is only 1.4 miles.
Starting at the Sandstone Peak trailhead, the Mishe Mockwa/Backbone Trail climbs steeply up to a 3,111 ft. peak. This is the highest peak in the Santa Monica Mountain range. This trail leads to what they call the three peaks area.

Unique Malibu view, Nature's realm, coastal mountains, valleys and sky lots of it. The chaparral vegetation dominating the sandstone landscape of the Santa Monica Mountains Preserve.
PS: Wish I could make it to the Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival later, but family illness may keep me busy in northern Calif. Look forward to your postings and creativity.
