Hello all, January is the month for gorgeous sunsets here in California. I knew early today that the sunset would be great because of the type of clouds that were in the sky so I planned to go to the beach in the late afternoon. This time I drove to another beach down the coast that is about three beaches south of Pt. Mugu and is actually the county line beach between L.A. and Ventura.
Deer Creek is a favorite for the locals and is a beach we go to for a celebration of life ceremony. It is also a decent dive spot because it has two coves, a reef, and kelp beds.
I had to wait for awhile to get this spot on the rocks as I wasn't the only photographer there this evening.
I was hoping the reflection in the water would turn out well and I think it did.
Please enjoy my photo...

hi karen. it is obvious why the place was frequented by photographers that evening. splendid sunset photo. personally i am more attracted to the cloud reflections captured, than the huge rock at the bottom. i thought of a narrower crop, but you see it as well, and one fun workshop photo is quite enough, imho :))

your well chosen view point has enabled us to follow the line of rocks nicely into the frame, the long shutter speed also works very well by flattening the sea to mirror where the gorgeous pink and blue tones are a real delight.
The upright, almost square format works very well for me.
Kind regards Les.

Hello Karen - What a lovely sunset and you have captured a special moment here. I think that Deniz makes a good point regarding the composition, a small upward tilt of your camera would have given the shot more sky (which is what the fingers of rock direct the eye towards) without losing the lovely textures in the FG rock or the beautiful calm reflection. Your exposure is masterful and the result very attractive. You are so lucky to live near the coast as you have such wonderful opportunities for dynamic and beautiful seascapes! Super! Warm regards rosemary

Attractive Deer Creek coastal scene for the foreground of encrusted rocks, reflected colorful clouds in the tide pools, then the layered clouds on the horizon.

Fascinating composition, linking these spectacular rock formations out to sea, with a wonderful sky with colors that let the sunset, reflections also occur at sea, complete an image of great beauty.
A lovely colorful in very natural shades.
The lighting is very well managed and good sharpness brings out the details and textures.
Well done. I love it.
Have a nice day.
All the best.
P/D. Very grateful for your kind congratulations.
