Urban Letters was a public art project in 2013 in Los Angeles by the knit graffiti collaborative 'Yarn Bombing Los Angeles'. People were invited to say what they wanted about the city using yarn letters. I found this one saying 'Lack of Passion is Fatal' outside the La Brea Tar Pits and Hancock Park close to the George C Page Museum.

This is a striking photograph as well as an interesting one too!
The juxtaposition of several different features is delightful - the multicoloured "Lack of Passion" logo made up of vaious woven yarns, the two park benches with their own striking motifs and the lady sitting at far left, herself looking pretty much devoid of any passion whatsoever - all underlined by a fine bed of plants with yellow flowers.
Excellent composition and a fscinating image too with lots of lovely colours, excellent light, perfect exposure and exquisite details and sharpness.
An interesting note and a very fine photograph which could have just so many different interpretations!
P.S. Now this has just reminded me of something else. Do you remember our interest and surprise when we visited the little Shropshire town of Bishops Castle and saw lampposts and fence posts wrapped in multicoloured knitted woollen garments? That was very curious!

I think that I must be getting old and crochetty, there seems to be an endless supply of uninspiring images being uploaded on TE these days, so when I came across this lovely shot it quite made my day!
It has a lovely irony about it and as John has already noted it has lots of room for individual interpretation.
Thoughtfully composed, nicely cropped and well presented it`s the perfect antidote.Love it.
Kind regards Les.

I agree with that phrase, and it's cool to see it behind those benches. The ads, the stylish woman sitting there, and the horizontal line of the curb and grass, all combine to create a lovely urban scene.

eye-catching,intriguing and really cool shot!
I like the way you composed and framed the scene.
And the phrase on the fence makes,it works on our imagination and forces us to think about its meaning.
This is exactly the kind of photos I like very much.

Eye-catching colourful detail and at the same time very well observed interesting situation. The posters saying "censored" and "do not enter" go really well with "lack of passion". Good idea to include a person in the photo.

Very cool image that show the local project of the LA area. While there are not a whole lot of monumental or historical architure in LA as in many European cities, but there are certainly a lot of interesting espect and the multi cultural events in LA. I live in So Cal and I hardly go shooting in LA and perhaps I really should make an effort to do so.
This is a very colorful image with all the display of letter and advertisement posters on the benches of current issues. Good quality image and interesting subject.

Ciao e buona notte

This 'Yarnival' movement has become quite a universal trend. We have even had evidence of it in our small village and it does create massive interest.
This is a strong statement made more effective by the vibrant colours! It's striking how it opposes the adverts: censored, do not enter!
The inclusion of the lady, (censored) is very important for adding human interest to the scene.
I'm not sure about your border, maybe a little overpowering but, what do I know!
Have a lovely day,

I love the title of this shot - it is so true in photography as in all things. Shame the "is fatal" bit is only partly visible but having said that I think the lone woman sitting on benches with their own messages that in some ways relate to the message in the title add another layer of "semiotic depth". Well observed.

top marks for originality here. I love the conceptual way you have cropped and composed this shot so as to make it arty and quite fascinating. An image full of style and impact. Well done!

very interesting to see these different photos from such Iconic cities like LA.
I was there a couple years ago, and found it to be actually very much full of grunge, more than i would have thought.
cool photo here with the lack of passion sign.
good idea and good eye to see it

A good daıly lıfe scene from LA wıth excellent colour, sharpness, densıty and saturation. The lone woman seated on the bench anımates the shot and the censored text adds ınterest. The wıde angled panoramıc crop was a good choice. Excellent shadow detail ın the shady bg. Tfs!

Hello Ann - I'm back home and catching up with TE. This post of yours seems to highlight the interest in 'wooly art' which seems to have been taken up in various corners of the world. We saw similar woolen 'installations' in Dublin! An excellent DL shot. The contrasting commercial and 'folksy' graphics and the excellent positioning and sidewards glance of the woman with the blue bow all work seamlessly together and create an artistic and well produced photograph. Warm regards rosemary

Just perfect, not just because of the words, but also because of the lonely woman sitting there, with the empty bench beside her. Very well framed, I like the details a lot!
