Ellery Lake is not actually within the Yosemite National Park boundary, but is just two miles east of the Park on Tioga Pass Road (Highway 120). The Lake was created by daming Lee Vining Creek which flows eastward to the Highway 395 corridor. It frequently has snow drifts into summer being at 9,489 feet above sea level in the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range.
Currently Highway 120 is infamous for the tragic wild fire within Yosemite National Park, now the largest wild fire in California's history. The fire is located to the west of Yosemite Valley, and is currently threatening the magnificent Giant Sequoia Tree grove, being within one mile.

I keep telling myself to drive up 395 from near Barstow to Carson City--still working on it. Awesome of this beautiful lake, I like the reflection of the mountain. Good lighting and sharp details. Well done, tfs.

This is fabulous country. I treasure the memory of driving Tioga Pass Road one weekday morning twenty years ago, just after dawn, in the perfect sports car for the road -- a first-generation Honda CRXSi that had been mildly hot-rodded (no nitrous or turbo, just bored out with some head work, bigger injectors, better intake and exhaust). Sure, a Ferrari might have been prettier, but with the windows down and the sunroof open, I was having fun!

Calm placcid blue waters and the inspiration of nature, a classic and beautiful shot.
I am following the fires on the news here in ireland to, awful to see. I seen on the TV yesterday one of the sequoia burnt, and it had a road through the tree. Is that the famous one with the road through it, or are there a number of those? Sad to see the forest smouldering like that. Wish we could send you some of our rain.
All the best
