Photographer's Note

a portion of the snow-capped san gabriel mountain range as seen from the santa fe dam recreational park.

inland from the pacific ocean, LA is bordered on most sides by rugged mountains which provide the only barrier to the continued expansion of its sprawling suburbs. the northern aspect is dominated by the san gabriel range. the mountain range forms a barrier between the greater LA area and the mojave desert.

this transverse range lies in and is surrounded by the angeles national forest with the san andreas fault as the northern border to the range. the highest peak in the range is mount san antonio commonly referred to as mount baldy.
