Photographer’s Note
The Cataract Falls Trail didn't see too many hikers early this morning. Northern California is being hit by a cold spell, well cold for California that is. This great news for the brave ones who dare to get out there anyway.

On the thumbnail this doesn't look like much, so I'm glad I opened it up for a closer look.
It's only on closer inspection that the real strengths of this image shine through.
I like how you arranged everything in the frame here; the composition is well balanced. I also like the effect of the slow shutter speed on the waterfall. It's captured the movement of the water without going over the top. It's all too easy to overdo these long exposure moving water shots, but that's not the case here.
Of course, the best bit is how you caught the swirling water in the pool in the foreground.
Excellent work.
Cheers,
Ben

Very nice composition & capture. The swirl of the water over the visible bottom is the most interesting. The cascade is well captured without, like Ben said, setting the shutter speed too slow. Latiff

Hello, Mike--
Great work here, the composition is very strong, with the log and the fall pulling into the swirl, and i think that the 5 seconds was just about perfect to give the swirl effect. i like the idea here, and the execution was strong as well.
Thanks!

Oh wow, this one is even better. I love that motion swill you have captured in the water. Well done.

Mike
I'm going backwards to catch up and this one was posted before the one I previously commented on. I like this one better because it does not have the lower falls and as someone else commented the log is in a better position. The long exposure did the job with the water. This one is one is a perfect 10.
