Photographer’s Note

The parade in Fairfax had begun with a police car followed shortly by three fire trucks, including a new one from the Ross Valley Fire Department that serves Fairfax and San Anselmo and a couple of privately owned "antique" trucks. Here we see a scene repeated in perhaps every community parade in America. The family is comfortably settled on the curb, while the young son stands in rapt attention as these big red trucks drive slowly by.

A friend has a son who, when he was young, would spend hours sitting in front of the television watching two videos. The favorite was a road construction site where trucks were being loaded with dirt after it had been excavated from the ground. The second was a tour through a fire station with a long visit in the garage where the fire trucks were parked. Show me a collection of toys belonging to a boy in America, and I'll almost guarantee there will be a fire engine in the collection.

So this boy is, no doubt, having a fine morning. I don't know whether the girls in the big truck entering the scene at the left shot him with their water guns, but they did hit the police officer standing in front of me! A great day for everyone, no doubt.

Enjoy!
