Photographer’s Note
The parade in Fairfax had begun with a police car followed shortly by three fire trucks, including a new one from the Ross Valley Fire Department that serves Fairfax and San Anselmo and a couple of privately owned "antique" trucks. Here we see a scene repeated in perhaps every community parade in America. The family is comfortably settled on the curb, while the young son stands in rapt attention as these big red trucks drive slowly by.
A friend has a son who, when he was young, would spend hours sitting in front of the television watching two videos. The favorite was a road construction site where trucks were being loaded with dirt after it had been excavated from the ground. The second was a tour through a fire station with a long visit in the garage where the fire trucks were parked. Show me a collection of toys belonging to a boy in America, and I'll almost guarantee there will be a fire engine in the collection.
So this boy is, no doubt, having a fine morning. I don't know whether the girls in the big truck entering the scene at the left shot him with their water guns, but they did hit the police officer standing in front of me! A great day for everyone, no doubt.
Enjoy!

Excellent shot of a bay area (although it could be in almost any town) event, very cool.
The little boy tie dye shirt screams bay area to me. I really like the partial truck entering on the left. It looks like it was a very bright day.
girls are fascinated with fire trucks too (I sitll have mine from 1973)

Hi Faris,
this is a real nice slice of Americana. These kinds of parades that attract whole faimiles, which are probably followed by large outdoor barbecues. These are the kinds of things that I find most charming about America and american culture.

Interesting shot but a bit overexposed. Look at all the white t-shirts and the yellow jacket of the fireman.

Hi Curtis
nice notes at first, these fire engines are really attractive even to older people like me!
and there is no doubt they fascinate little boys as well.
going to the picture, it seems a bit overexposed, 1/640 would have been better and a little PP to highlight very dark areas,
my dearest regards;
K.

Definitely a great 'street' scene, Curtis. I like the way you have the little boy and his mummy on the road 'watching' the mother and child in the back of the fire engine. The diagonal line of the engines is also good. Well framed.
