Photographer's Note

Downieville is placed just north of Nevada City on Highway 49 in the Sierra Couty, California.

There is something about this sleepy little town you can’t tell – it calls you back! I have been there three times.

Many buildings are left as original, and you can feel the spirit from Downievilles heydays back in 1850’es, where gold mining was a big issue here. Gunslingers as well...hangmen...it was rough times!

It’s awful hot here in the summertime, and I have been told, that it is harsh cold in the winter.

You can find a lot about this “ghostly” little town on the Internet. It’s worth a visit – in fact, you may still be able to find gold in the rivers around…
No one can hold back once it starts, I promise, but you won’t get rich!
