Hi Derek,
I absolutely love that sky and the contrast with the foreground gold mud flats. I think I wish you might have taken a super low POV for this one. It would have narrowed the foreground slightly and would have given it more visual weight for the detail in the cracked earth. Without it the bottom portion tends to lack something for the eye to peruse. Improvements aside I still enjoy this image.
Cheers!

superbe! le choix d'équilibrer ciel et sol est sympatique;
j'ai aussi essayé avec + de ciel puis + de sol, les rendus sont à chaque fois totallement différents... je respecte ton choix mais c'était amusant de voir comme dès le cadrage on peut avoir une idée à privilégier

Great contrast of the elements, the soft rain clouds vs the hard, dry, cracking desert, and in color the purple gray clouds vs Orange sands.

Hi Derek,
DV with big clouds, not something that we see often at pictures. and it is that cloud formation what makes the image. The blue/purple toning is just wonderful against the brown from the earth were we still can see great patterns...how wonderful.
The swirl in the clouds is really the best part here...a great shot, i like it a lot.

Hi Derek
the sky is great, the yellow field gives an intersting color contrast, but without a stong subject on it, i would have cropped it by half.

Hello Derek
This is a superb capture from Death Valley, I remember you telling me about the storm when you visited here, it looks fun to watch and capture. Colours, composition and detail are all looking great here.

Hello,
The kind of landscape and photo I appreciate. First for the use of this wide and empty foreground, flat but with a texture on the floor and second for this threatening cloudy sky with curves and movement in the shapes.
For sure, it is not a common landscape, but there is a real atmosphere, a feeling shared.

Derek,
this is certainly an image that deserves much more attention from the TE community. 7 critiques and only 218 viewers so far? Oh man, this should have much more then that. The composition with the flatness of the ground going almost through the entire landscape and at the same time the clouds with the whirl at the end are simply mind blowing. Isn't this the Racetrack Playa? I thought that you didn't make it to this place!? You're so lucky to had all this clouds. That is so rare in the Death Valley and made all the difference in your shot.

Hi Derek,
Wonderful and stunning emptiness .. tremendous tone on the empty valley .. the tone and light are balanced beautifully with the sky .. beautiful dance of motion in the clouds .. truly wondrous image. take care, John

Hi Derek,
The cloud formation is just amazing, it almost looks like a horizontal tornado. Even more amazing is the detail you captured in both the cloud AND the valley floor. I have a special place in my heart for MV since I visited it with my father when I was 10. To my Fav's
