Photographer’s Note

I was out taking cliched farmland sunset pictures when this country dog spotted me. He first became interested at the far end of the road, then trotted steadily towards me. I realized it was a free gift -- an interesting subject -- and started shooting. However, I never really did figure out whether the dog was in a friendly or aggressive mood. So, here's me: *Click click* [raise eyes, gague dog's distance, feel brave, take two more pictures] *click click* [move tripod back 10 feet, unlock car and open door] *click click*... and so on.

This shot captured the mood, I think. (Meaning MY mood.) I have another I'd like to post tomorrow that I think will require some workshopping.

I like this photo. Yes the dog is out of focus and the DOF is short, but the grass scrub on the left of the frame is focused. This whole effect brings a menacing atmosphere to the scene. Very well done.

What I like about this shot AND your note, is that it's a picture that has a story and as you say it has a mood... Now, it would have been been greater if it had been a fox or even a wolf coming towards you, coming from nowhere.
I think I would crop differently, making it a more panorama shot by removing part of the bottom part.
