Photographer’s Note
I believe this tree has special significance as the area around its base has been reinforced. Again this is a scan from a slide. We travelled down the Monterrey Coast towards Carmel after visiting relatives in San Francisco.

Hi Phil
I like this pov of the rocks running diagonally to sea and the lack of sea horizon to make it feel like floating. I would think 2 trees could each make a good shoot, provided you could find a good angle. The cloudy sky brings out a good color tone here.
Well done. TFS

Hi Phil, is this the "Lone Cypress"? This is a very famous tree, probably one of the most photographed in the world (besides my birch of course). Very excellent shot on your part with excellent detail seen on the tree and rock. Great colours seen here, the green in the tree is awesome, and I like the red in that brush leading up to it. The sea scape is intersting, with the transition from the sea to the sky, very cool. Excellent shot, and very excellent PP work on this one taking it from slide to pixels.
Thanks, John

Hi Phil,
I like the very peaceful, slightly mysterious atmosphere in this shot with the calm sea and subdued misty tones.
Very nicely composed with the line of the wall leading your eye to the tree, which in turn is positioned perfectly against the misty horizon. The colours are superb with the vivid green of the cypress tree and red of the plants (Hottentot figs?) standing out against the subdued colours of the rocks and the sea.
Good scan job too.
Cheers
John

Nice shot of the coast and of this tree. I like the way it stands out by itself, towering over the rest of the scene. The background is interesting too, with the fog or haze obscuring the horizon, so that we just fade out in the background - unusual and beautiful. Well done!

Hi Phil,
Interesting perspective - I quite like how the tree seems to "rise" above all else and I like how it is set against the very obscure sky. I also like that deep golden color on the rocks beneath the tree. Great shot and TFS. Gerald

Hi Gerald,
Wonderful capture to this iconic cypress. The lush green contrast beautifully with the misty blue sky. The rocks are seen in sharp details. Excellent ocean side image.

Wether or not it has significance we do not know but one thing we know, it gave you the opportunity for a good shot. Without that tree, the photo would quite plain. I like the way the sea blends into the sky and shows no horizon line. Well done.

Hello Phil
That's really original and a good idea to reiforce the base. It is a good way to preserve it. That tree is beautiful. The texture of the rock is great. Thanks a lot for sharing it.
It is very unique.
Best regards
Denis!

Hey, Phil,
what a view!! Wonderful composition - I like the way you didn't cut the point off on the righthand side of the rocks. Fabulous detail, great color, I like that misty looking BG. You got outstanding detail in this shot as well. Great job!! Many thanks and have a good one.

Hi Phil. Impressive spot in terms of weathering and composition. The exposed rocks, the red ivy and the old timer make this a memorable spot. Nice to know that efforts have been made to save the tree.Regards. Klaudio.

Nice capture of this famous tree. It is amazing how it managed to take root in this most inhospitable location. Your scan turned out perfect. I too visited the area a few years ago.

Hey Phil;
Well- as I'm sure you know me well enough, I don't sugar coat-
So here we go... haha
This one is a 'pleasant' looking shot Phil, however I think it could have been better. The composition I think is quite good, however I can only imagine how great this would have turned out had you used a graduated ND filter (dark at the top/ clear at the bottom etc.) to properly expose the top portion of the image. Just my two cents mate....
Cheers!
