Photographer’s Note
Now we finally approach the steep cliffs of Big Sur. For me the drive seems to begin in Cambria. The cliffs are just starting to rise; there are still fields, but they just drop off into the ocean. This is mostly pasture land. John_C has some really stunning pictures of this area. So do Rpoole, and Garydenni
In San Simeon, some people like to stop at
Hearst Castle, the fantasy
home of William Randolph Hearst, a newspaper magnate. For those accustomed to real castles, I suspect it would seem a bit sleazy; it certainly does to me.
The Piedras Blancas point and light are also in this area.
There's a Map here. It's a continuation of this Map

Hi Pat. What a beautiful view this one is. I truly like the panorama of this region. The mountains on the right and the wide ocean on the left are a perfect balance. The highway on the right is almost an invitation to drive to this place. I can only think of the fun time anyone can have driving along the ocean. Beautiful setting for this composition. Envious now :-)

This is a fine capture of the coast line!
Typical details are well captured, the colours of early summer awesome...
Well framed in a fitting panoramic format, good details!
Greetings,

PS
If you scan a map, mark the location and post as WS it would probably be of help to more than me..?

Again I have enjoyed exploring your links. It really gives us an excellent feel for the area. Pablo's idea is a good one btw. See this one of Tomi's (t0mmm1)
I love the way the road you have included in this composition helps us feel we are part of the trip. Wonderful how the cloud is clinging to the cliffs. Good work once more.

Hi Patricia,
I see myself driving here on an early sunday morning last month. Calm winds, sun was shining and a wonderful view along the road. No i did not stopped at Hearst castle, i was heading to Montery.
Do you have a picture from the Bixby bridge? I will post one i a few weeks.
Your picture has great lines looking it from right to left. The different colors of blue are working very well together and these little ytellow flowers at the bottom are lovely. A very nice photo...brings back some good memories.

Hi Pat! I feel like I right beside you on your virtual tour with this one. I like how the clouds are nestled above the little canyons of the hills in the background. The inclusion of a little bit of road helps us appreciate how close the land's end this great road is.
Also, as you certainly know, this is a great area to view pinnipeds.

Good entry into your series from the coast, Pat. The panoramic format feels like a natural choice on this one, and the lush springtime greenery on the hills and towards the shore brings a rich color pallette. It might even be good to have a bit more of Highway 1 in the frame at the right, but as it is this is a nice and pretty photo.

Hi Pat. This certainly looks like a magnificent piece of coastline. I love the way you have caught the clouds hanging on the hills. I think it’s good to have the road in your photo as it gives weight to the title as well as adding the human element to the scene. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers, Paul.

Hi Patricia,
Oh yes, Cambria is a delight, one of my favourite stretches of this magnificent coast....I like how you framed this, with the sliver of road on the right taking the eye inward toward the velvet like hills which are seen with great clarity in the background, sweeping their way in an arc to form the cliffs of Big Sur. The verdance and freshness of the scene is almost palpable here. Well captured, Pat.

Hi Pat,
Your Big Sur series is wonderful. Pictures are top-notch, and most importantly, it's a guiding tour. I need to remember this as I have not driven this part of CA. Best wishes. Danilo

Wonderful panorama, Pat. The colors are very green and inviting (I would have guessed March even without looking at your date). This is a lovely shot, but I wish you had included the whole road on the left -- I think that would have made for a more complete story here.

Hi Patricia
Lovely scenery with all the green vegetation by the blue blue sea. The line of the road draws the eye the rolling hills behing. I like those little, yellow flowers in the front corner.

Pat, you finally beat the fog and captured a magnificent view ot the californian coast. The fog is still there, but enhancing if beautifully. Your filter gave an almost surrealistic appearence to it.
Great shot, I wish it could be larger on my screen!
