Photographer’s Note

Morning light warms a California beach near Cambria on Highway 1. Despite California's teeming population on the south coast, there are dozens of secluded and still quaint coastal retreats far from the madding crowd.

Hi John. That's some beautiful view. The colors and saturation are both outstanding. The bright lighting conditions are well managed. To me the shot looks a hair soft. On the beach it's just right though. Unfortunately this place isn't even close to where I'll be on vacation! But I think I'll have good views up the Oregon Coast. Nice shot John, and thanks for your support with your critique yesterday!

A beautifully timed shot to catch the surfs at its best. It makes the scene exciting. You have also chosen a nice spot to show the full extent of the beach. I like the different shades of colours on the beach and the greens on the hills. A nice place to breathe the fresh ocean air. Well done!! Have a nice weekend.

Well saturated colours and good DOF make yet another stunning shot. The curves of the bay and of the waves help your composition and the tiny figures who have found this haven add interest and scale.

I have to say John this is the kind of beach that I like most. Simple private and a delightful place to watch the waves come in. Nice work in this capture. I hope Wes stops by to see the seaside without smog..like in LA.

Hi John, A very well composed picture. I like the elongated big S shape of the coast line showing in this picture. The brown rocks and the white sand make a very clear contrast to the blue ocean and the sky. A very impressive clear horizon to show the perfect day you have had there. I like the morning sunlight angle you have over there, which makes the white ocean wave very clear and vivid. An excellent picture. Well done.

I think you did a great job with the exposure here John, the sky is not overblown, yet the rest of the image is well exposed as well. Di you happen to use a polariser on this shot?
I'd love to attempt one of my post sunset exposure shots from this location, capturing the smokey/ foggy effect of the water.

The word impeccable comes to mind when I see your photos. Everything is just right with your composition, with the diagonal line of the beach and the waves cutting across the scene, and the rocky headland in the upper right. The colour is very vivid and inviting. The final touch is the tiny figures of people visible on the beach, giving the shot scale and interest. Bravo!

It's always a great feeling coming upon an open piece of land that seems to have gone mostly undiscovered. This is a beautiful such landscape with just a few people enjoying the place. The colors are excellent. Very natural, warm and inviting. And the textures are nice, too, especially in the greenery.

A good perspecive POV resulting in a diagonal slight converging to upper corner compo, how tiny these people are ... got the impression that the 20D is a bit more compressed sharp and a bit hard in details, maybe by the firmware.
Very strong deep contrasting colors here.

I'm doing a theme on driving Big Sur from LAX so naturally I have to add this lovely photo to the theme - as well as your other cambria photo, which I've already critiqued. The waves marching onto the sandy beach that develops behind rock points, the steep access to the beach all look very classic to me. Perfect for the theme
