Photographer's Note
Hi TE members,
My recent hiking trip to the high sierras brought me in touch with early morning sunrises, the smell of fresh pine and sage brush, the sound of birds and clear blue skies away from the noise and crowds of the big cities of California. I woke up early and waited for the golden hour light to illuminate these mountains near South Lake. This is at the 9,748 ft. elevation level and the temps were in the 30's at this hour. The mountains here are a part of the Inyo National Forest. This area is about 22 miles from Bishop.
Have a great weekend,
Kabel

Howdy SierraKaren,
Fine early morning red glow on the majestic Sierras, and shadows offsetting the scene.
One of my favorite mountain areas, especially in October when the mountains, rivers, lakes and meadows turn into a riot of fall colors.
Did you camp nearby, or make the drive from Bishop?
Keep up the fun Eastern Sierra journey and photo views,
Sincerely,
Ray

Nice capture of the morning light on those mountains, the colors is almost like the Red Rock canyon we have in Southern Nevada. Early morning or late afternoon are the best time to take pictures. Good lighting and dof with nice details. Well done, tfs.

Hi Karen
A magnificent landscape and a photo to equal it and do it justice. Those colours are magnificent, and I have not seen this place look so red and so similar to the Outback of my own country. Love it, congrats.
Have a good weekend

Hello Karen,
Beautiful peak bathing in golden morning light. The early birds get to see this kind of light and fresh air. I'm not a morning person, but I do try to get up early when I travel exactly for this kind of photo as well as getting in touch with nature for the purest moment and there are greater chance to encounter animals early in the morning.
I was recently up here on Memorial Days weekends, it was still too cold some of the hike, like Onion Aalley, Kearsarge Pass. We did some hike in Yosemite instead, and recently we did the Sawtooth Pass in Kings Canyon on Labor Day weekend, There are so much to do and see out in the sierra. Next time you’re out there, I recommend Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest, it is the oldest living three, actually oldest living thing, and it is actually in California. Who would have thought and not too many people knows about it. On clear day you can see the whole range of the Sierra from there and many of the Bristlecone Pines.
