Photographer’s Note

I'm standing in the middle of the Berkeley Rose Garden, although you don't see any flowers in this shot. I focused my camera on a stand of trees on the western edge of the garden, which sits in the Berkeley Hills and offers a good view of the bay.

The garden opened in 1937 and was among the many public works projects sponsored by the U.S. federal government (in this case, the Civil Works Administration) to provide jobs during the Great Depression.
