Photographer’s Note
Here's another shot from my recent trip to Catalina Island.
Catalina is about 25 miles off the coast of Southern California. Most people tend to take a ferry over from Long Beach in LA or Orange County to the south.
It's makes a great a daytrip for Southern Californians perhaps much like Sausalito does for Northern Californians.
But in my case, I was staying overnight so I was able hang out and take some sunset pictures. I must confess though that there really wasn't as much color on this evening as the image seems to suggest. While it had been sunny during the day, as the temperatures cooled, a heavy marine layer started to form around sunset and there wasn't much color to be had. The effect here was enhanced with a Cokin sunset filter but not in Photoshop.
For post processing, I color corrected, cleaned my sky with Neat Image, adjusted the levels and USM sharpened.
Regards,
Doug

Very dreamy coloring with your Cokin. Like the name of the boat in foreground. Spectacular setting and I envy you for staying overnight with tripod in tow.

Hello Doug -
It's a very nice image in deed. I guess with the sunset being kind of blah you had to do something to spice it up. I am not a big fan of the Cokin color filters but you have demonstrated how filtration can save a sunset. I would have liked to have seen what the unfiltered image looked like. Well done!
Thank you for sharing

Wonderful moody atmosphere, Doug! Including those boats was the right thing to do and I even think that the single person in "Su Su Q" gives a nice touch of life to this shot. Excelent distribution of the elements in your composition.

Hello Douglas,
fantastic sunset and what a wonderful light you've captured here! Compo is very nice and the picture I think is really well balanced in saturation, contrast and sharpen.
TFS!!

Hi Doug. Sometimes we have to give the natural world a little help with colour or contrast etc. (not that many admit it) You have made the most of the scene with great composition and POV. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers, Paul.

Hi Doug,
Wonderful sunset captured around these wonderful sail boats with their sails neatly tucked in for the night. The color is remarkly consistent pink and the little bit of ripple is magic.
Regards, Tom
