Photographer’s Note
This is near the entrance to the Oakland Estuary, which passes from San Francisco Bay to Jack London Square in Oakland and on around Alameda island to San Leandro Bay (actually more of a slough than a bay). There are several yacht harbors along the Estuary, and it was a very windy day last Saturday so lots of sailboats were out and about on the Bay. These were heading home. It is not shown in this photo (I will post another one later that does), but the yachts had to share the narrow confines of the Estuary with not one but two very very big container ships that were making their way to the Port of Oakland docks. See this earlier post for more info on the Port of Oakland. It made for some very interesting viewing from shore and probably even more interesting sailing!
I took this shot from just about as far NW as one can get on the island of Alameda. You can see a part of the Bay Bridge in the background, along with Yerba Buena Island which anchors the two spans of the bridge.
Technical: Cropped and sharpened, contrast and saturation increased. The image does not need to be rotated - the Bay Bridge, a suspension bridge, naturally arches up a bit in the middle.
