Photographer’s Note
This shot was taken from the Alameda ferry terminal looking across the Oakland Estuary to the Port of Oakland. The old crane in the foreground is on the Alameda side and has been left in place as, presumably, a historical feature. It contrasts interestingly with the modern crane on the Oakland side.
From the Port of Oakland website: The Port of Oakland was established in 1927, and is a world-class international cargo transportation and distribution hub. Located on the mainland shore of San Francisco Bay, Oakland was among the first ports globally to specialize in intermodal container operations. The Port of Oakland loads and discharges more than 99 percent of the containerized goods moving through Northern California, the nation's fourth largest metropolitan area. Oakland's cargo volume makes it the fourth busiest containerport in the United States.
Technical: Contrast, saturation and sharpening employed, then image was rotated and cropped.
