Photographer’s Note
The RedBull Flugtag arrived in Arizona and 29 teams were to compete to see how far their craft could fly from an "aircraft carrier deck" located 25ft/8m above Tempe Town Lake.
The "Dipsomaniacal Devil" was the first craft to be launched. The propulsive crew are on their way to the water while the pilot, perched between the devil's horns, was having last second thoughts about the wisdom of this.
Actually, this crew ran into a problem at the start. As the distance is measured from the deck to where the pilot hits the water, the pilot was suppose to be strapped into a hangglider. Unfortunately for them, the wind was a bit too strong for them to get the hangglider up to the pilot, so, as the devil fell, he jumped forward.
I was lucky to get this shot (the first of a series) as I was on the bridge before it was closed to pedestrians (about 2 hours before the first "flight") and wasn't kicked off.
