This is the Sun Devil victory bell. This was taken on a very sunny day, hence the glare on one side of the bell.

History-

The Victory Bell, which hung in the dining hall until 1939, summoned Tempe Normal School students to meals. Then, after World War II, the bell became a trophy and was awarded to the winner of the annual ASU and UofA football game. Finally, when Senator Carl Hayden donated a piece of sandstone from the original White House, the bell was installed on a pedestal carved from that sandstone and given a place of honor on the West patio of the Memorial Union. The bell was removed sometime in 1958 when the Memorial Union was remodeled. The historic bell weighed over 2,000 pounds and is believed to have come from Michigan on one of the first freight shipments to Winslow via the Santa Fe Railway around 1879.

Ross F. Jones donated a replica of the original bell to ASU in the late 1960s. It is located just outside the southeast entrance to Sun Devil Stadium and is rung to call students and fans to the stadium before each football game.
