Photographer’s Note
Before white man arrived to Americas and built there the civilisation as we know it now, there were flourishing in that place the precolumbian people. They had an amazing society, so different from ours, so rich in culture, traditions and beliefs that unfortunately white man did a lot to perturb and destroy instead of appreciate and conserve it.
On the dry and hot rocky mountains around Phoenix, Arizona. Precolumbian people had their way to express their artistic feelings by carving in stone theirs surroundings and daily life. Beside the artistic part, this drawings called petroglyphs had an important role in signaling certain paths in the desert, hunting places, give a delimitation to some teritories, etc.
Unfortunately nowadays man is not apreciating (once again) enough this artworks, carving over or grafitting with contemporan (and usually of a bad taste) signs the rocks that once served as important part in the precolumbian tribes.
This photo presents an ancient carved rock (as I know around year 1100-1200), in the mountains south of Phoenix.. Fortunately these rocks are not on the actual trails and one must have enough respect and admiration to crawl thru the rough terain to find them and watch them.

Welcome aboard cobraphil8,
It is a shame that the past histories and civilizations of peoples are destroyed by the inconsideratness and misunderstanding of their values and beliefs by others unfamiliar to their ways.
Throughout time mankind has leaned on their own cultures and not given others credit for what they have learned and taught to their peoples. We all have learned through the history lessons we have been taught in school, whether they are all true or not, and it is us, ourselves, that must be taken inherently by the peoples before us and honor their civilizations, experiences and sacrifices and allow our own progress in humanity.

Una din cartile mele favorite e "Amintiri despre viitor" de E. Von Daniken, care trateaza si acest subiect.
Ai surprins minunat detaliile si esenta!
Multumesc

Hi Petra, good to see you on TE.
Your notes and photo are very interesting. I like looking and reading up about the 'old' times and seeing this art work from back then. You show it well and it is good to see that there is no graffiti or signatures on the wall.
Well done, Janice
