This is a view of the photographers perch above the famous Horseshoe Bend in the Colorado River near Paige, Az. One false move...
There are a number of fabulous shots of it on Trek and one of my favorites is by Henk/Floydian where he combined 3 vertical exposures at 17m/m with astounding results and spot-on color/lighting.

This picture should be a real pleasure for any geologist. At least, it is for me. I can some history on the rock formation shown here. The sharpness is excellent and the strata looks wonderful. Well done.

fantastic textures, and I like a lot how you show them, it really feels the rock is still liquid and slowly flows. like melted chocolate :) the gray-green bush in the corner is a nice accent and provides an interesting contrast both in terms of colours and in terms of "direction" - the bush seems to point upward, while the rock formations point to the left. I find this creates a depth to the scene.
excellent work, Kathy, my compliments.
best,
Kristine

Hi Kathy,
I experienced this amazing place last May and noticed many stunning formations as you show here. Very well seen and I can definitely relate to your hint of danger at that place...TFS. Gerald

Hi Kathy. A dramatic pattern of rocks, combined with the contrasting textures and colours of the vegetation bottom right. The light and shadows are really well captured. I think you composed it very well, with just that small layer of sky and the blurry distant landforms to create the sense of depth. Great shot.
Regards,
Andrew

Hi Kathy!
Good shot of this unique geological formation.I like the composition with these bushes in the lower right corner.Strong colors and good contrast, too.

Hello Kathy -

Don't sell your image short as it is a fine example of what the desert is really about. If it wasn't for these geologic formations and the river there would be no Horseshoe Bend. Most focus on the river and it is nice to see what else is around the famous point. All of the technical stuff looks to be where is should be. It was a very good compositional decision to minimize the sky. Well done!

Thank you for sharing.

John

Hi Kathy,

You have captured a great scene here, showing a detailed view of a wide landscape. Good choice to have some green and yellow plants to contrast with the reds of the rocks. A good example of cross-bedding, which shows the rocks were formed as sand dunes.
