Flash floods carved this sandstone slot canyon into these spectacular formations. Hummm. It did rain the night before but none was on the horizon for our visit. The thought of water rushing through these narrow walls, the oppressive summer heat, and the tight quarters combined to make this a destination for the courageous.

Beautiful shot of these wonderful curved rocks Kathy. I love the highlights from the sunlight coming through and the shadows below.

Hello Kathy,
those patterns of rocks are unmistakable. The tones and the light are beautifully mastered.
How do you reach the bottom? It looks like a cave or something...It's almost always the same curves that we see in pictures. Is it a wide place?
Thanks!
Marc

Not ANOTHER Antelope Canyon shot! I can't take it any more! I HAVE to go there!

OK, I got that off my chest. Now: Great handling of soft light and the shadows, good crisp lines and great positioning. I do wish you hadn't cut off that bit on the lower right edge.

I really like these slot canyons - like gigantic sculptures with those smooth walls and wonderful curves. The lighting in this shot is great, showing the texture of the walls very well, and the colour is great too. Beautiful!

Hello,

This is knockout. I thought it was a shot of some kind of flimsy material caught in a breeze, so I zeroed in to see why you took it, now I see

Martin

Hi Kathy,

There rock formations do start to get a fame here on TrekEarth that would suit the Eiffel Tower :-). It starts to feel like I need to go there as well to add it to my portfolio.
Surely impressive light youare showing us here. Very pleasant. Would have loved to see some camera settings, since the tripod use makes me curious about the low speed used here.
Thanks for sharing!

Greetings, Dennis

Hello Kathy,
One does not need the sunbeams to produce spectacular images in Antelope Canyon, and your photo is a proof to that. The soft contours of the sandstone walls and sublime light are very nice. Great composition, too. I thought you used a short telephoto but now I see the 10-20. Best wishes,
Hakan

Hello Kathy,

It is quite astonishing that flash floods could have created this canyon. The strata of different epochs are so well delineated, which means that that there is a variation in the density. My good friend Hakan (Delic), I noticed posted a similar shot at the end of October that complements this image well. His images, scanned from older slides are so successful, I look forward to seeing him later this month when he visits Washington, DC, and to ply his secrets. (I've known him for the better part of twenty years, and it appears that we both kept our photographic interests in closets with other skeletons.)

Warm regards,
Bulent

Hello Kathy! Wonderful study of shape, symmetry, and spectacular color all at the same time. Nice tight crop and good job to keep the brighter upper reaches perfectly in bounds.

Well done!
Doug

Your composition is great using the curve of the rock and leading the eye through the photo. Well done
Best wishes,
Achim

Hi Kathy,

A striking photo, with wonderful curved shapes and great bold colours. Just the right exposure to bring out the colours of the sandstone.
