While we were in the slot canyon known as Antelope Canyon, I realized that most of the shots that I'd seen from here were beautiful photos, and that most of the time were vertical shots because the high sides of the slot canyons really are naturally formated this way. When I looked up and saw this composition I was in awe by the way this "rocket-shaped" sandstone seemed to be angled toward the opening and the light. So, in a way this shot can be imagined as a sort of underground launching pad for the formation sculpted by nature and time.

It's nearly impossible to take an original picture of this much photographed landmark. A gorgeous picture nevertheless, shapes, texture, color and exposure are great. Overall beautiful.

I agree with the above comment...it is quite hard to take an original shot of any landmark. You have done extremely well here, however. The POV is interesting and (dare I say) unique, and you have managed the light beautifully.

Hi Michael,

Great use of the upper curve to frame the image, without it this would not have stand out.

Excellent approach!
Cheers,
Enrique

Hi Michael,

I never tire of images of this place. Wonderful job. I love the way the curves work into this horizontal format. Great colors and textures. When I first opened it I had this thought that the top might be cropped some more .. but now I am not so sure .. wondrous image from a wondrous place.

take care,

John

Great composed and beautiful artistic result, the colours so wonderful, Michael. I like it alot, thanks for share it. :-)

Hi,
Like a poetry. U have selected the frame wisely. The colour looks brilliant and vibrant and the light and shadow used so nicely.
Great shot.

Hi Michael,

Already quite some shots passed by about this place, but never too many for another good one! I agree with you that it was time for a horizontal layout for once. The tones, the reflecting light and the detail on the rock are spot on. Very nice!!

Greetings,
Dennis

Hi Michael,
Great capture, good compo. Well done. Nice sandstone.

YEAH!
I was in there on Aug. 13, but didn't manage to get anything even close to this one. Wonderful!
I did manage to screw up my camera, though...
Our Navajo guide kept throwing hands full of dust up in the air to "enhance" our pictures... you can imagine the rest.
Oh, well... Antelope Canyon is a marvel of nature, so... I'll take the pain.
Thanks for sharing, buddy.
Fulvio.

Hi Michael,
very abstract image, the texture of the curves and the orange colour are gorgeous. Despite this is oftenly photographed place, the picture is beautiful and interest for me.
Greetings, Silvia

Hi Mike,
I've seen many pictures of this place. But never get tired of them as those round natural forms offer endless angles. Exact exposure. And interesting variation between light tone between reflected and more direct light.
Kari

Beautiful handling of the light and fine point of view with the wave pattern cut-out along the upper edge that frames the ripples below. Excellent job in PP too. Way to keep your wits about you when the tour guide rushes you through the slots from one room to the next while avoiding the mob of tourists that surround and so easily confuse one's concentration.
Splendid!
Kathy

Great photo Michael, I always wanted to go to Antelope Canyon, such a good place to take photos. Good lighting and composition.
Great photo.

Daniel

No matter how many photos I see of Antelope Canyon I'm still dazzled. This one is very nice, the differing textures and colors really add depth to it, nicely shot.

Composition, sharpness and color are all good. This is a fine technical achievement.

I share your feelings about taking this particular picture. Though not nearly as good as yours, I took a similar one for the same reason:
