Photographer’s Note
This is a companion to an earlier shot of the same subject, but with tighter framing of the power plant. I brightened and added some contrast to this shot, but since it was taken in such low light, I had to limit the contrast on this. What I was after here was capturing the really blueish almost pristine looking water, with the element of man's impact on the environment.

Hi Michael,
very interesting shot with extraordenary polarity between landscape and industry. Deliberated composition as well !

Michael,
Indeed!
I drove through this area last summer and remember thinking there were strong photo opportunities around this huge power plant. Nice to see someone's proving that right!

A very powerful image; the power station could be anywhere, but it's a surprise to see it in this famous landscape. Great POV. And it's still a beautiful place.

Powerful statement here. Luckily the Navajo tribe limits access to much of this pristine landscape. I like your choice of the decisive 3 elements: the water, the red color mts, and the smoke stacks and how they are arranged in your composition to create eye-flow yet present the clashing values of modern technology and nature's resilient beauty.

Hi, Michael,
Jeeze, that IS an eyesore in such a beautiful landscape, eh?? Beautiful layers of light and shadow, wonderful depth, well composed to show the stark contrasts and the light on those far mesas is awesome. Really great shot! Thanks and good wishes,
Shelly

hello Michael,
I wonder how many of us would really agree to give up electricity and all the other amenities just to avoid changing the environment, I know I'm too spoiled for that. I guess it's the matter of "treading lightly" and only taking what we need. I never understood the wish to have a leopard's coat or huge uneccesary dams where sheepskin would give the same warmth and human-sized dam would generate enough energy without disturbing the river too much.
but back to the photo - I like it a lot, the contrast is very strong. I particularly like that the foreground is already in the shadow while the distant mountains still are brihgtly lit. you've captured a perfect moment, my compliments.
with kind regards,
Kristine
