A view from Grandview Point on the south rim of the Grand Canyon in Arizona, USA. Storm clouds gathering in the distance, this sad skeleton clings to the canyon's edge. Probably struck by lightning this is one of many sad dead trees that pepper the beautiful and picturesque landscape.

WOW! what a beautiful barren landscape so well captured through your lens.
Very well managed light all over the frame. Grand composition to include this dead tree, which I would say is jewel on the crown.
Absolutely brilliant painting (that's the way I would like to describe this photo)

A spectacular picture of this most famous view. The line of clouds above the horizon add very much to the depth and beauty of the scene. The colours show the different layers of geological formations very well. The dead tree is perfectly placed and essential for the excellent composition.
Kind Regards, Ann

Yet another fine landscape view of this famous and spectacular wonder of Nature, perfectly captured and with the most amazing colours and clarity.
Your composition is excellent, the dead tree perfectly placed in the frame and reinforcing the foreground against a fabulous distant view in which we can see the bright and contrasty foreground features gradually fading into wonderful blues and dark reds and purples beneath an amazingly characterful sky, the distant clouds brilliantly lit by the low angle warm sunlight.
And technically perfect, as ever!

A fine composition using the spindly tree as a frame. I like very much the warm light and tones. Also, that wonderful sky. The depth is amazing indeed. Excellent rendering of the textural detail.

Un paysage magnifique avec cet arbre mort en avant-plan. J'aime bien la ligne de gros nuages blancs au-dessus du paysage. Les couleurs sont superbes.

Possibly the best I´ve seen from the south rim!
I´ve walked there without any spectacular shots made. Very attractive,

Ciao e buona serata

Good morning Brian,
Very well composed picture of this interesting landscape, keeping the old tree in the FG. Nice colors of the sky too. Natural colors of the grand canyon.
jcpix (13930) 2013-12-11 18:24
This, this is precisely what I was talking about...another unique view and presentation of the subject material! Absolutely astounding rendition and progression of colors from front to back, you've really made the canyon come alive....despite the big, dead tree in the foreground! lol
These trees are great though, aren't they? It's like the ghostly remains of a once proud and lively character keeping guard over this natural wonder.
Have you seen any of the recent pictures from here? Whoa! We had a rare atmospheric inversion that had the clouds settled into the canyon like soup in a bowl, only the highest points were visible...you would have gone nuts photographing the effect! :) Do a quick Google search, it's amazingly beautiful.
My favorite thing about this composition is the single bush out there on the edge, off to the right...looks lonely. What else can I say, it's superb!
I'll keep a close eye out for that cheque. :)

Spectacular composition. I live the colors and the textures from your nature shot. Well taken, have a good day.

Hello Brian, this leafless branches of the tree is looking great and gives a perfect and matching foreground for such a graphical landscape due to its texture. Great colour tone. The last light is great on this area. Superb composition. Tfs.

these dry trees near canyon look always very attractive. Another marvelous shot from your Grand Canyon gallery. Gorgeous view.
ChrisJ (117199) 2013-12-13 7:33
Another fine shot of the Grand Canyon with superb sharpness, colour and saturation. I like the distant clouds catching the sunset colors. People often forget that the South rim is over 7000 feet high which allows us to see the distant sunset much earlier than you would at sea level. The fg dead tree adds depth. I have fond memories of this awe inspiring vista. Tfs!

Wonderful landscape and once again great colours also! The pov is fabulous and the dead tree adds so much to the shot! Good shot of such a magical place!
Wanda1 (15142) 2014-01-10 21:15
This old tree certainly has the perfect view point and he gets to see it at all hours of the day in all weather conditions. The colours of the landscape are beautiful and enhanced by the warm light. Good sharpness throughout right into the distance so we can see the great vastness of the canyon. The tree is an interesting foreground element and is nice that you have included it.
