A view of Hopi Point on the South Rim of the awesome Grand Canyon in Arizona, USA. The crowd gathered here on the rocky outcrop, watching the sky darken as a huge thunderstorm approaches across the canyon from the North Rim.

HI Brian, when the sun kiss the ground and the storm is coming, the result is always fantastic, especially in a magic place like this, really a great spectacle taken whit your usual top quality of details and colors, very well done!!Have a nice Sunday and thanks,Luciano

as I see you chose a little more remote place to admire the beauty of this scene. The POV is great-it provides us an excellent view of the Canyon without crowds of tourists you left at the lookout point:)
And finally the approaching storm, which makes so lovely contrast to the still nicely illuminated Canyon.
Have a nice sunday

There is so much to attract attention, here. The sculptured cliff with its ant-like occupants would have made a great shot on its own but the approaching storm had to be included to give an added sense of drama.
You know, it would be a great opening shot to a macabre science fiction story, where the population commits mass suicide rather than be taken over by the approaching aliens! Have I a story in me waiting to emerge ....!
Have a great day,

We see a lot people on the big rocks these people, these have to have a very nice view about these area.
Of course are the thunderstorm clouds make these picture attractive.

The people give the image scale and bring the scene to life. I like the use of the vertical format and, especially, the contrast in lighting between the bottom and top parts of the composition. The clouds rolling in on the storm are very impressive and help create depth for the composition. Superb tones and detail to be observed in the foreground rocks. I wish you a pleasant Sunday and trust you are having better weather than us.

another great landscape here. Landscape is rarely seen in vertical format but you proved the system wrong through your last photographs. It is also a nice and colourful one with a great depth. The dark sky at top made your shot really eye catching. Great work. Tfs.

Superb contrast between the stormy sky and the sunny plateau in the foreground. The crowds on top of the viewing plattform add a great sense of scale to the composition and I like the change of the colors from the warm in the foreground to the colder background.
have a great sunday

The famous Grand Canyon and the known viewpoint showed at all its best.
The storm and your skills created an amazing atmosphere of this shot.
Have a nice Sunday,

Hi Brian. What a great landscape. In such a grandiose landscape, people feel small. Light, colors and composition are masterful.
williewhistler (16398) 2013-08-25 3:33
Hello Brian, you have handled the spectacular landscape beneath the stormy sky immaculately, taking full advantage of the elements at your disposal, the curved strata layers in the sunlight contrast well against the sky and whilst sometimes people can be a pain on this occasion they add a great sense of scale to the shot.
All the best for the remaining Bank Holiday,

I hope to see this famous place very soon. Superb! I love this view, impressive pattern on the stormy clouds... TFS!

Ciao e buona domenica

The view is really amazing, but I like the composition of your photo with people on the top of the rock, it gives us the scale of Grand Canyon
SnapRJW (31629) 2013-08-25 7:57
Hello Brian - The majestic canyon is put into perspective by the tiny figures who gaze out over its vastness. Together with the heavy storm clouds this natural wonder really shows how small we are in the greater scheme of things. Excellent shot and food for thought. Warm regards Rosemary

I envy those people who are present there to enjoy the nature's show. We are no less lucky to witness the scene as a whole through your fantastic image. Great colors and DOF. Thanks for sharing such a classic.
willperrett (10894) 2013-08-25 8:32
Great light of course, as your title indicates. The contrast between the sky, the far side of the canyon and the brightly lit closer ridge is very impressive. The people also are a bonus, offering a sense of scale. Lovely work.
Bartleby (13552) 2013-08-25 9:52
the flock of people give a good sense of scale in your picture and the layered composition works really well. Definitely on my to-go list of places.
dkmurphys (59213) 2013-08-25 13:13
What a lovely sky in the background! I like the atmosphere and the superb natural colors. Good catch!

Superbe et spectaculaire photo avec un ciel impressionnant et une très belle lumière. Splendide palette de couleurs.
Tu n'étais visiblement pas le seul pour admirer le spectacle!
annjackman (21899) 2013-08-26 4:18
An awe-inspiring canyon that I found difficult to capture on film in a way that did justice to the place. Perhaps I should go back for a fourth time and try with a digital camera! Your shot has amazing depth and detail with gorgeous rich colours helped by the very stormy sky. The people look the size of ants against such a dramatic and huge landscape.
Kind Regards, Ann

Nothing can compete with natural colours, and there are so many in this shot.
What a beautiful sight. I always wanted to drive down south to the Grand Canyon.

Once again set to comment on your most recent pic, when I looked out the window and saw a similar looking storm working its way my direction...and well, this image was quickly the one that jumped out at me! :) Often times during the summer monsoons I'll just pull up a chair in the back yard and watch nature paint the skies, until it starts raining or blowing debris anyway!?
What a fantastic vantage point you've obtained here, and an equally impressive composition and moment captured. Certainly an instance where including so much of natures handy work is the central element and theme. I was referring to the sky, but in all fact, the entire scene is natures work! Such vibrant and contrasting colors, a cracker of a shot. I bet the tourism board would love to see these images. Great work! Enjoy the day ahead.
Friendly regards from PHX,

Fantastic stormy sky and very beautiful view
Interesting spotlight on the rock who gives a nice contrast with the dark background

This is beautiful, the incredible landscape around, the sky and specially those people there on the rocks - people look so small in this incredible place. Great shot!
