Three wranglers and their mules take a break and enjoy the breathtaking views of the Grand Canyon.
Riding mules down the narrow trails of the Grand Canyon is a popular adventure experience. Although the mules walk close to the edges and have been known to back off the trails, accidents are rare, especially when the riders follow the instructions of the mule wranglers. In fact, mule trips have been going into the canyon for more than 90 years without a single fatality from a fall.
A scan from a negative.

My first impression here was that this was from a movie, starring John Wayne... A very good and interesting image, I had no idea that you could ride a mule here. Maybe we should have tried this when we were here...

This is a great shot from the American west. The vertical format works well here emphasizing the height of the scene. The lighting and colors are great and the photo has excellent sharpness.

I too was immediately taken back by the thumbnail to my teenage days of going to cowboy films. But the real interest for me is seeing the detail of the rock and plants, so different from the usual photos of the canyon. And the glossy brown back of the mule is beautiful. Lovely composition. Perfect frame.

Is that snow on the trail? One of the items on my bucket list that I would most like to do is the Grand Canyon, Lucky you! A simply but affective shot of the wranglers on their mules which incidently look very relaxed and at ease. TFS

An old negative scanned... I know the time it takes to post process it!
The overall picture gives the impression of being thrown in the past with these 3 cowboys or in a western movie. You judiciously open the image in their eyes direction.

This photo is only ten years old but it looks timeless. In b&w it could have been taken a hundred years ago. For any Westerner raised on North American mythology it is immediately recognizable. The quality of the scan is also admirable.

A pretty good scan Marlene giving a shot that looks like it is a still from a spaghetti western movie. A great looking trio!

Light and snowy colours are impressive. Great contrasting composition of the rider with the rocky background. Well done.

Hello Marlene, You have done well here both in capture & repo, it has a nostalgic look about it. It kind of reminded me of the Marlboro man ads, I don't think he would have been seen on a donkey. ;-)Well done. Thanks

This is a wonderful scene of the mule wranglers at the Grand Canyon. I like the POV and the frame. The colors and definition are very good. It is so nice to be able to scan the negatives and save the images in digital format.

the very first thought that came to my mind when I saw this photo is "Mackenna's Gold" :)) I saw this movie long ago in my very early childhood...
I like this "cold" view; and the composition was chosen very well.
Very good scanning job! this photo could be a very good illustration for a book about the "Wild West"! ;-)

I came across this scanned image of eleven years ago quite by accident. The photograph is first rate — well composed, flawlessly exposed, skillfully scanned. Unhappily, I've never descended into the Grand Canyon, having looked down only from the edges... with trepidation.

Boy, this one is so nice, bringing back wonderful, fragrant memories of this trail and the canyon as a whole. I'm glad to see scanning from negatives results in such crisp, colorful photos. I just got a scanner which will do negatives, so wish me luck.
Anyway, such a harmonious composition. Lovely. Congratulaions, Judy
