Photographer’s Note
One popular way to get down and up in the Grand Canyon is by mule. There are a lot of mule trains heading up the Bright Angel trail; here on the South Kaibab trail this was the only train carrying tourists that I encountered.
As a horseperson I had a good look at the state of the mules; they seem in extraordinarily good condition, with well-kept hooves and a healthy weight. They are very sure-footed and although I would probably be slightly afraid I sure could have used a mule to help me on the way back up!
