I had noticed this many times driving around my region of the valley, but never had my camera with me. Well, I finally made it a point to go out on a day off of work and finally photograph what I had wanted to for quite some time.
This was a section of staircase on a water tower, that as you can see, made for some interesting shadows in the early morning. There was some natural blue sky coloring coming in from the left, and I'm not sure what caused the reddish shadow across the top right corner... but I thought it made for somewhat of a red, white & blue color scheme.
I've included a black & white version in the Workshop.

una bella composizione per unione dei sue soggetti: la scala e la sua ombra che attraggono l'osservatore con le loro volute.
Un bel soggetto, ottimamente sviluppato.
Ottima la tecnica ed il taglio della foto.

love this. So beautifully observed and creatively composed. It is piece of minimalist magic that is just spellbinding. The elongated shadows do it for me, that and the symmetry. Very artistic and a superb presentation.
Have a good week - regards Brian.

We see a little bit difference between the color and black and white.
I find your color version the most beautiful.
You chose a wonderful angle this gives perspective and depth.
We get a lot details of these stair.
Sharpness and clarity are perfectly.
Composition and presentation be superb. TFS.
Have a nice Monday,

Your idea is super, Jason, just can't comprehand the black shadow on left on pic. space, that could be avoided - however, it doe's add special texture to the photo. About the red...well that's not a disturbance at all.
Well applied idea, you thought about for long.

A beautifully composed picture with these long curved lines in a oerfect balance and harmony. A very artistic view, well observed and captured. Not many colours here, the B&W version is maybe even better;)

You are lucky to have found such a perfect subject. Your excellent POV gives here a fantastic result. The shapes, tones and light combine to produce a very enticing image with strong visual effect. The subtle play of light and shade exalts the great graphical quality of the shot. An intriguing, near-abstract photograph. Well done.

nice graphical abstract composition on this industrial spot.
fine light and reflection of the stairs.
well seen and done.

Beautiful graphism, well-spotted and elegantly presented. Shadows with repeating patterns can be very artistic. I like that the stairs are completely cutting across the frame in a diagonal. Personally, I prefer the B/W version, but both are nice. :-)

Congratulations on this simple, yet spectacular shot. Great framing, and the play of light and shadow.

Wow! I take off my hat, Jason! Just an art work, good example of minimalism. Just fantastic contrast, outstanding pattern of the shadows and construction! This is really one of the most interesting photos what I saw today here.
If you were surprised my last photo, it would be interesting to know how Americans imagine Russia today.)))
Best wishes from snowy Ural town,

True artistic detail.
Composition and presentation are superb.
ACL1978 (7511) 2013-01-22 15:19
Great example of art from the mundane, Jason - a simple staircase on a water tower, but the way the shadow away, and the way the light fades right to left except for on the face of the stairs themselves, creates a beautiful illusion that the staircase is almost peeling off the tower itself and striking out on its own! Beautiful concept and fantastic execution. The framing is ideal here, revealing just enough of the staircase to maintain the effect. Really nicely done.

now you see, i would drive ALL the way down to Arizona just to get a photo like this!
believe it or not, i've been searching for a subject just like this.
wonderful subject, and the abstract type of compo is for sure the best way to shoot this.
Robert1969 (7160) 2013-01-24 0:35
A very nice "game" with the subject (the stairs)
and with the shadows ) and it's a picture with
a nice "game" of the contrast ( the vertical
shadow left in the picture, creates a very nice
atmosphere and makes the picture extra exciting).
Light management and the composition are great.
Vertical position emphasize extra the highness.

CLODO (33996) 2013-01-26 5:14
good eye to detect the potential of such an image with the lateral light revealing the stairs nature.
B&Ws suitable as there are not many colors

This is really good - the composition with the diagonal and the shadow is just perfect! Perfect light and very well framed!
speedymanu (3587) 2013-01-30 14:33
a graceful image with a subtle monochromatic palette. The way the shadow is distorted adds a little twist to this minimalist composition. Congratulations,
Noel_Byrne (30487) 2013-02-16 9:06
This is a brilliant image, and to be honest, I would not in a million years think this was on a water tower. Its very elegant and that you have caught it here with no visible signs of anything supporting it enhances that feeling even more. The shadow is superb, and the fade to shade at left is a brilliant idea.
Really nicely done, classic pic.
All the best
