Photographer’s Note
The "monsoon" has arrived in Arizona's central valley which leads to threats of storms in the early evening. When this hole in the clouds appeared over the "Flat Iron" on the Superstition Mountains my mind jumped to the theory proposed by a local author. She believes there is an alien base in the middle of the mountain area ... and this looked like they'd opened a path for launch or landing.
We're declared as being in "monsoon" as soon as we have 3 days in a row with a dew point of over 50°F. That doesn't mean it is humid as our daily high temperature at this time of year is 107°F, but it does mean we have a chance of some water making it to the ground from the clouds.
The image was cropped and some brightness and contrast added.
