Photographer’s Note
Thomas Bay is on the mainland side of Frederick Sound, not far from Petersburg. It's a quiet spot to anchor for the night. Just as we were about to sit down to dinner, I spotted the fog moving into position around these islands, grabbed my camera, and ran out to shoot this scene. Dinner could wait.
Technical: In RAW, slight Exposure and Brightness increase, also Contrast. In CS3, a bit of Levels work, noise reduction with DFine, and Contrast increase.

Hello Dan -
A very fine scene in deed. I do like the calmness of the scene as it seems to radiate that mellow end of day feeling. Bring on the wine, cheese, and crackers. Exposure is dead on the money and the reflections are an added bonus.
Thank you for sharing.

Hi Daniel. I think I have a photo of that very island from our inside passage cruise. This is certainly bringing back the memories. Great photo, love the misty atmosphere. Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful shot, Daniel.
The small island in your picture is a perfect symbol of Alaska's remoteness and isolation: a fact that has enabled it to keep its wilderness so pristine. The fog you have captured creates an air of mystique and secrecy that perfectly depicts this rugged land. Good framing and sharpness, but I think this shot could benefit from a slight boost in color saturation.
Well done and thank you for sharing.

This is stunning Dan: one of your best imo. I love how the little island is shrouded in mist and for once placing it in the centre of the frame is the only choice! It's probably because of the near symmetry of the left and right sides. Excellent!

Hi Dan,
For such a special and magical moment, dinner can wait a few minutes longer. Love the moody atmosphere here, the show mother nature provided, there may never be another one just like it. I love the layers landcscape. So beautiful and mysterious as the same time. It makes me wonder what's beyond tha layer of fogs. Great shot for such low light condition.
Thanks Dan

Hi Dan
Nice apparent virgin landscape, all the fog hanging gives the feeling it's still waiting to be discovered, which year are we in now... 1492 ?
Have a nice day JY

hi Dan,
we are talking more and more about going to Alaska, and this photo makes me particularly restless :) love the shot, the fog adds just the touch of mystery to the scene, and cool tones create a sense of calm and quiet. dinner certainly could wait :)
best,
Kristine
p.s. I would not touch the saturation here, the pastel colours are exactly right for the moody image, but I'd clone that tiny dark spot in the middle, it's a bit distracting.

Hi Dan,
No mistaking this scene of the Southwest Passage of our 50th state.
Love the sense of mystery created by the foggy mist as it envelopes the rugged mountains and this lovely cone shaped island.
Wonderful rugged beauty.

Excellent view, the cloud layers adds so much interest here and I like how the small island is placed right under the big mountain.
Cheers
