Mendenhall Glacier Basin Photo

Photographer’s Note

This is a more open and broader view of the Mendentall Glacier basin. It was spring runoff season so we were told the rushing waterfall mid frame right all but disappears during the later summer. The people on the path lower right help to show the depth and size of the area.

It must have been wonderful to be so close to the glaciers here, and your high POV works well to show such a wide area. The people do indeed make a good scale reference. I was wondering if you have been using a different PP method as your Mendenhall images seem to lack the punch I'm used to with your work. I hope you don't mind me mentioning it. This is good work, but I wouldn't have recognised it as yours.

Splendid natural landscape, and very pretty place of walk for those which like nature. Very beautiful panorama on this immense glacier and its environment. The colors and the light are very beautiful and give a good harmony to this composition, it is very pleasant to look at, thank you Gerald.

Paysage grandiose et d'une grande beauté. Une merveille de la nature que tu as super bien capturé avec les personnages qui donnent bien la dimension des lieux. Par contre, je ne suis fan de ton cadre gris qui rend à mon avis l'image plus terne.

An amazing view of wild nature, with the glacier as a natural eye-catcher!
A well composed presentation with rich colour in the extraordinaire light...
I notice the lake seems to be covered with ice as late as middle of May..!

another great shot, Gerald, I like a lot how the V-shaped valley leads the eye into the photo. I'm glad you included people in the frame, that makes the size of the glacier all the more impressive. technically impeccable work, I like it a lot.

un magnifique paysage comme j'ai pu en voir en Suisse, ces glaciers qui descendent et forment des lacs aux couleurs surprenantes.
Excellent POV et cadrage, des couleurs fortes et des blancs bien balancés. Une bonne réussite dans la capture de ce coin de rêve.

I have been on this cruise and also to this glacier. The people in the lower right really add scale. I think the glacier has retreated somewaht since we were there in 2004. Very well composed.

Nice scene showing what may be a vanishing feature of the Earth. The diagonals all guide the eye to the main point of interest very neatly.
