Photographer’s Note

Another brilliant sunset in Valdez, Alaska. One of the longest days of the year, this Midnight Sun photo was taken at the end of June. The piers, extending off the city dock are used by ferry workers to assist in docking the large ferries. The waters here are very deep enabling the accommodation of the large ships.

Mountains surround Valdez and Prince William Sound. Most Alaskans daily live along side bears, moose and other wildlife that populate the area. Salmon and halibut fishing are popular summer sports in these waters.

The weather is warm this time of year, averaging 70 degrees. The skies will not get too dark at night and day will break some three hours after nightfall.

Thousands of tourists visit the area every day. Some staying all summer long.

I cropped the foreground and the sky a bit and sharpened once.
