Orthodox church in Ninilchik

The Transfiguration of Our Lord church stands on the bluff in Ninilchik, west side of Kenai Peninsula, Alaska. It was built in 1901. Apparently, its five “bulbs”, each topped with a three-bar cross, represent Christ and the four evangelists.

I was told that it was the most photographed church in the USA. It doesn’t seem impossible as it’s an easy stopover en route down to touristy Homer. That’s what we did on a cold grayish late-October morning, although the purpose of this trip had nothing (or just a little!) to do with visiting touristic sites. Given the light conditions, I spent most of my short time there photographing from the graveyard. A photo with the snow-capped volcanoes on the other side of Cook Inlet as background would have been nice perhaps, but unfortunately not that morning.
