Photographer’s Note

This grand old cedar stands resolutely on South Point Higgins Beach along the Inside Passage of SE Alaska. It's one of my favorite sights, which often provides a welcome respite to eagles searching the channel for migrating salmon.

Hi Judy,

I like this scene as it show me nature in a clean beautiful manner. The blue sky add so much to the feeling of fresh freedom. I truly hope to visit Alaska and the Yukon someday to experience the beautiful sights of colossal mountains and pristine wilderness. Lovely shot Judy :-)

région très sauvage que l'Alaska, ours reoides, volcans , hauts sommets, froid, des éléments hostiles mais magnifiques et purs.
Un POV et un cadrage parfait qui place des points d'intérêt un peu partout.

Hello Judy,
What a fresh, clean image this is, the composition is first class and the low POV really accentuates the height of the cedar tree. The way you have dressed the foreground with the fallen trees works very well, it gives the image additional depth and visual interest.
I get a feeling of open unpolluted skies and undeveloped wilderness.
A very inspiring capture, tfs.

God use of this tree in the FG which give a great depht to the image. A landscape well balanced and rich in various details well collected. Superb sky well collected too.

J'aime beaucoup cette photo avec les vieux troncs d'arbres en avant-plan et le cèdre sec qui ajoute de l'intérêt à la scène. Beau contraste de couleurs et magnifique ciel.

Dear Judy,

I just though about your gallery and mine, in indeed they are completely different. Nonetheless I really like this shot and I would photograph this scenery as well. However your place is far away from mine. Why not sit on that log to watch the time go by? The cedar and the lake add to the great DOF. Sharpness is fine, colors are vivid and contrasts are nice. Well done

How could I have passed this photo without noticing it before! It is such a charming shot from your beautiful Ketchikan! I like the POV and composition and the beautiful light and crisp colours. The photo transmits a lovely sense of being in the middle of untouched nature and a sense of wideness, which the excellent depth creates. A very inviting photo! TFS!
