Photographer’s Note
A view of the Homer Spit as seen from the scenic overlook on East Hill Road. In the distance, the mountains are part of the Harding Ice Field, in the middle of the photo you can see the Homer Airport and the northwest corner of Beluga Lake. The trees in the foreground are part of the residential area located along the very steep hillside that comprises East End Road.
During the summer months getting clear pictures can be a challenge when you don't use filters. The haze that envelopes the Cook Inlet region is due in part to humidity and increasing world pollution travelling northward.
The horizon line appears slightly bent along the right side of the picture. In reality, the shorelines actually bend in that direction, following the north and western edges of Kachemak Bay.
The Homer Spit is a manmade spit, and approximately five miles long (8.04 kilometers), hopefully giving a little bit of perspective as to the size of this area.
