Photographer’s Note

The Cheyna River runs right through Fairbanks. After a driving rain the previous day, the sun shone. Canoes and jet boats plied the Chena River. Further upstream, there is a hot springs resort. I'll post a picture of the hot springs in the workshop.

The blooms in the foreground are called fireweed in Alaska, because they bloom best after a fire. I see them in photos from lots of other areas but nobody seems as proud of their fireweed as Alaskans. Morel Mushrooms also grow after a fire. In the previous year's burned areas, there were lots of mushroom pickers. Mushroom buyers had also arrived from all ovr the country.
