Photographer’s Note
[I think this is Mt. Huntington, but if I am wrong please correct me.]
This photo was taken handheld through the curved perspex window of our plane on our Denali (Mt.McKinley) flightseeing trip. I am very pleased that is came so sharp and clear in spite of the slightly scratched window. It looks like a polarizer was used here but it was in fact not. When I tried shooting with the polarizer the stress patterns in the window were showing quite distictivly.
Mount Huntington (3,731 m / 12,240 feet) is a striking rock and ice pyramid in the Central Alaska Range, about 8 miles (13 km) south-southeast of Mount McKinley. While overshadowed in absolute elevation by McKinley, Huntington is a steeper peak: in almost every direction, faces drop over 5,000 feet (1,525 m) in about a mile (1.6 km). Even its easiest route presents significantly more technical challenge than the standard route on McKinley, and it is a favorite peak for high-standard technical climbers.
Mount Huntington was first climbed in 1964 by famed French alpinist Lionel Terray and party, via the Northwest Ridge, also called the French Ridge.

What a mountain! What a shot! You did an excellent job of capturing the difficult challenge this peak poses to climbers. I'd like to see it, but I would never try to climb it.

That is some mountain. Very impressive and well done. The softness of the clouds contrasts nicely to the rock.
