Photographer’s Note
Traveling the Denali Highway was one of my favorite parts of the trip; so much that I repeated the drive.
Denali Highway is the old road to Denali NP. It's a 130 mile dirt road with few people or services available. It also happens to be among the most scenic drives that you can take.
Using the raw data format on the Nikon, I did little to this pic. I balanced the color, adjusted +1/3 EV and added a bit of contrast to clear a bit of the haze. I then downsized and sharpend a bit.
The mountains had been shrouded in cloud all day, so I was quite excited when the clouds cleared for a few minutes to reveal this scene.

Spectacular scenery, I'll have to add it to my list of places to visit! Shame that the clouds cover some of the peaks, quality of the picture is very good however. I am enjoying these Alaskan colours and landscapes.

Beautiful scenery shot, Ned. I feel that the blue does not work well with the partial covered mountain. I would have the blue part cropped off to keep the powerful feeling of the mountain instead.

Very impressive scenery! And you made a very attractive picture of it, clear, sharp and well framed...
It made me think of Jotunheimen in Norway, House of The Giants!

Your picture is clear of this great view - the haze is natural. It reminds me of what great places are left to see in America and a trip I would like to make sometime in my life.

Beautfiul shot - I like yours more than the workshop - although it is more a panoramic approach

This is one of the best photos of the Denali region, and of Alaska generally that I have seen on TE! The clarity is excellent and the light very dramatic. Your vantage point seems very high-up...were you on a ridge above the valley?
It is a dream of mine to see a view of Denali like this one! Thanks!

Hi Ned,
How exciting, that was my biggest disappointment, not seing Denali. You've captured a beautiful view of Denali thrusting high above the other already towering mountains. The marshy meadow is a lovely lead in to the scene. The wonderful detail and color shows your excellent light management and focus...Pat

Spectacular scenary Ned. I will be in Alaska in 2 weeks. I can't wait to see that place. I may not take the same route you did but I am certainly going to Denali.

Hi Ned, Good composition of this alpine area in Alaska. Good colour and clarity. Good when the clouds cleared when you are there. Murray.

After you wrote a comment to my second photo here on trekearth, I checked your photos. This one here, is my absolute favorite of all your photos. First of all, the clouds at the mountain looks dramatically. Second the sharpness is very good. But the most important thing in my opinion are the trees in the vally. Without these there would be a lack of feeling how wide this valley really is to the mountain.

Man. That is a sweet shot. I love how sharp the mountains are in the distance. You can virtually see every single ridge. The trees along the way are easily made out as well. Excellent work.
