Photographer’s Note
This is a repost of the original. I rescanned at 3200 dpi instead of 120 dpi. I'm not really sure what that means, but I think it's better. Any imput is appriciated.
ORIGINAL:
For a first posting I thought it would be appropriate to display my city. I'm new to scanning and I'm not sure how well this will turn out. This is taken directly from a slide.
In the summer there is an increased amount of daylight in all of Alaska and that can be seen in this sunset photo. It was taken at about 10:30pm. That is byfar not the latest a sunset photo can be taken, but it's still impressive. The mountain range in the background is the Chugach Range. It is part of the Chugach National Forest, one of the largest national forests in the country.
Anchorage is home to 260,000 people. It is the largest city in Alaska, though NOT the capital. Nearly half the population of the state live within the city and a great majority of the rest within 100 miles. This VP is near Point Wornzoff which is right up the road from Ted Steven's Int'l Airport.
Anchorage is located on the Turnagain Arm. The tides here are among the fastest in the world with a differance of up to 38 ft (-5 low to 34 high). The tide is so fast that the "boretide" can be surfed at up to 15 miles per hour. It is also known for it's deadly mudflats. They have been measured to be more than 400 ft deep with quicksand-like silt, mud, and debree deposits left over from the many glaciers in the area.
Anchorage is great for it's convientant location to other cities and highways and even from the heart of the city you are never more than 20 minutes from a truly natural outdoor experience.
If anyone has advise on how to work with a Canoscan 8400 to get a better scan from my slides drop me a line, it is greatly appriciated.

Nice shot Vanessa! You've captured this at the perfect time - the blue of the sky contrasts very well with the warm tones of the towers, the backdrop of the mountains and the reflections add a nice touch too. Unfortunately the scan is still a bit soft though, does the original slide look sharp when you project it? If so, it's possible that sharpening a little before you upload would help - the version you've uploaded won't take much sharpening as it's been compressed a little too much (you're at 47kb, the limit is 200kb). You might like to try a little UnsharpMask on it anyway, try 2px, 100%, 0 and see what you think, normally a radius of 0.8px works better, but there doesn't seem to be much fine detail here. Compositionally I wonder whether cropping a bit off the right would balance things a bit more? Anyway, a very nice capture :D

Your starting post is more successful than mine when I uploaded 2 years ago, Vanessa.
Alaska is still a hidden photographic paradise and we need more contributions like yours.
Regarding contrast, I am offering a workshop that shows the way I prefer to see. We always have different taste, but TrekEarth is the forum where we discover how other enjoy our work.
Congratulations and welcome aboard, my friend!
