Melt Bar & Lounge

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
It's been a couple of months since I've posted a photo and I have just been feeling more and more each week like I'm slipping away from one of my favorite activities. I haven't been out to take photos since pretty much the day I took this photo but today I decide I do more for me and make more time for my pastimes that help keep me sane!
About this photo:
I have been asked by visitlubbock.org to take some photos of the local nightlife of Lubbock, TX. One night we went out and I took some photos at one of my favorite places to hang out, Melt bar and lounge. I used the table for a tripod and used a 30 second exposure. Not my cigarette, I don't smoke.
I think because of the cigarette Visit Lubbock didn't purchase this one. Photographically speaking it was my favorite. Oh well.

Hi Mel, maybe it was not the cigarette but the brand that keeps attention. Good picture, with a nice atmosphere. Chau chau,
Maria
Hello Mel
Well done firstly for being asked to take the photos to promote the local nightlife, and secondly it looks like a very good advertising shot if smoking and drinking was still accepted as a social pastime.
Regards
Jim
Hi Mel,
Glad to know you don't smoke and good to see you back here :-) This is an interesting image with the ghostly figures moving around the bar. The exposure is very good to get that starlike shape of the lights and the warm colours to enhance the mood of the place. This seem like a nice place to go for some fun after work. Thanks Mel :-)
Roberto
Hi Mel, good to see you back - and you are right - you do need to make time for yourself on occasion. I think you and the others are right - it's the cigarette that's caused the problem. Smoking has been banned in all public places in UK, and is generally frowned upon.
I'm surprised at how little blur there is considering the very long shutter speed - but it certainly adds to the atmosphere of the place. Not quite so sure about the point of focus though, as the foreground is a little soft. Very interesting shot in a difficult setting.
Keep posting, Roberto
Hi Mel.
Welcome back from your brief hiatus.
This is an interesting shot because of the blurring, and I'm also amazed at how still the customers were for that long exposure! This is a slow moving community? The main thing is that it is very atmospheric and warm, and one can almost feel like one is there in the bar. Maybe the burning cigarette looks a little posed against the packet, and to most people outside the USA it must seem quite an anachronism. Maybe a set of keys would have been a better prop. I don't know what effect the haze filter had, but the result is most unusual and effective.
Regards,
Andrew
Hey Mel,
I really miss this place a lot. Its a very cool place to hang out. Very nice photo, but i am sad that they did not purchase it. What's the different between beer and cigarett? Both are addictive. That must be you on the background. I also like the starry like light. Well done.
Will see you soon
