Photographer’s Note
This is another picture I took while at Disney's Animal Kingdom. I could spend all day examining the Tree of Life. Here we have a manatee (please excuse the pun in the title), emerging as it were from the roots of the tree. It is very beautiful, and I believe wonderfully captures the wrinkled face of these wonderful, endangered creatures. I have had the good fortune to snorkel with these gentle giants while snorkeling at Blue Springs, here in Central Florida. What a great experience!
I have cropped the shot and worked on the colour balance and saturation.

The pun in the title is great, no need for excuses here, John. I think you did very well on this shot, with the strong light captured in a way that it does not disturb, but does accentuate the bright greens of the plants, and the "manatree" in the center. Sharpness and colors are good, and you could try playing a little with contrast. The "broadband" cropping is appropriate. Sounds like a fun place to visit. I was lucky to see some manatees at a viewing point near Merritt Island, and "gentle giants" is a good term to describe them.

John, due to the size of the thumbnail, and probably my own eyesight, I didn't realize at first what this was. I am really glad that I opened it up! The play on words you have chosen for your title "Manatree", man-made tree of a manatee is terrific! The lighting is great to show the texture and rich colors of the tree.
I was wondering if you tried increasing the contrast and if it would help to tone down some of the hotspots? Great shot all around.
