Autumn on the Ohio Photo

Photographer’s Note

This is another shot I took last year when I was home for Thanksgiving. This is a city park on the Ohio River and it was a very overcast, gloomy sort of day. I liked that there were so few people out in such inclement weather and the feeling of ... melancholy, I guess. Maybe just my melancholy because I knew I had to leave soon. I did some cloning on this to remove some distractions, but the colors are pretty much just the way they were.

Hi Shelly.
Been a while since I was here on TE, but now I'm trying again.
Well, this is how it looks when it's autumn, weather it's in the U.S. or in Sweden!
Great point of view and composition. Nice curved tree alley framing the picture.
Maybe I think that it's sharpen a tiny bit too much. To mee it looks like that when looking at the brances and leaves up in the trees.

Melancholic is indeed the first thing that comes to my mind... wonderful, moody shot. Great lighting & color, and that single human presence is all you need to enhance the lonesome feeling in here. Good job! It thoroughly represents the time of the year in all its facets.

A fine autumnimage,well composed with these empty benches and the man in the distance.Its probably too cold to take a seat.`
Good depth and great contrast between the trunks and the yellow leafs.

The sense of melancholy is added to by the lonely person with his head down (I bet he is texting someone!) The perspective view through the avenue of trees works well and the colours are wonderful showing we don't always need the sun to light them when they are this colour. It probably isn't over-sharpened as I have found that the compression needed for images with tiny leaves is quite high, resulting in artifacts which resemble sharpening.

It looks like Autumn has already reached the US. I am still waiting for it here in Portugal... The colors are nice and the inclusion of the bench and the standing man are crucial to lend some mood and humanity to an otherwise desolated scene. I like it.

This is a wonderful picture, Shelly.
It suddenly becomes 3-dimensional when I sit exactly the right distance away from it. The thumbnail givesw a quite different perspective again. I like the way you have chosen the colours for the border. Well done.

Shelly, the details in this one are really super, the individual leaves in the mid frame are really distinct. I know what you mean about this kind of gloomy sort of day, the fall is especially good at creating them. Nice shot overall and what ever you cloned out it is not visible to me.

I like the strong contrast between the trunks and the colourful foliage!
The carpet of fallen leaves tells such a sad story, as the best part of the year is now history...
The image is well composed with a fine atmosphere!

First of all, I'd like to say I have commented on one of your photographs ("A windy day in Puerto Rico") that I really like, however, as we cannot edit our comments anymore, I was unable to give two points to it! Sorry! Anyway, again I looked at your gallery and found this one: Excellent sharpness (we can see tiny details on the trees) and management of light! Superb composition (I'd like to mention the presence of the man in the bg - very good!)! Natural and beautiful autumnal colors! Anyway, I really enjoyed this one as well! Different, but just as nice!
